A page in my range is not working, or my entire range is down even though it was working before. What can I do?
If you’ve exploited a vulnerability on your range that lets you destroy the site, you may have broken a page or a functionality on the site, or even brought down the entire site. Not to worry, that’s exactly what you should be doing! But you may want to restore this page or functionality to keep exploring and exploiting the site.
In order to restore your site, you can use the reset options found in the three-dot menu of the range on the homepage. Follow these steps:
- Visit https://cmdnctrl.net and get logged in. If you have trouble logging in, you can view our article on How to Log In for help
- On the Ranges page, scroll to the box that has your active range in it and click the three-dot menu, it should look something like the screenshot below:
- Choose a reset:
- Choose Database Reset (option 2) if you have only made additions, deletions or modifications to the data in the database, this will get you a fresh copy of the database as it was before you made any changes to the site. This will not recreate any tables you may have dropped.
- Choose Full Reset (option 3) if you have made changes to the database, including having dropped tables and would like to restore them. This will give you a brand new instance of the site, including a new URL. You can reach the new URL by hitting the green “Play” button to launch your instance.
Both resets will take only a few minutes, the full reset will take a few minutes longer than the database reset. Choosing either option does not cost you any points or cause you to lose any completed challenges. Both resets will, however, cause you to lose any changes you made to the site, including any users you have created, any files you have uploaded, and any posts or transactions you have made.
Please note, if you are playing a Cloud Range (Forescient, Infinicrate, Mailjay), you will not be able to use these reset features. If you think you may have broken something in your Cloud infrastructure, reach out to an instructor supporting your event or email us at support@cmdnctrl.net and we will try to help you move forward.
I get an error when trying to launch my newly created instance. What can I do?
If you have just hit the orange “Start Range” button and it has turned into a green “Play” button, but when you click “Play”, the new tab that is launched resolves to an error page, you may just need to wait a few minutes before trying again. If you have waited or don’t want to wait, you can use the “Play via IP” option in the three-dot menu of the range to load your range using its IP address instead of the URL. Using this option does not affect your score or your completed challenges.
To find this option follow these steps:
- Visit https://cmdnctrl.net and get logged in. If you have trouble logging in, you can view our article on How to Log In for help
- On the Ranges page, scroll to the box that has your active range in it and click the three-dot menu and choose the “Play via IP” option as shown in the screenshot below:
I want to reset my cloud range, but I don’t have these options.
Cloud ranges cannot be reset like web applications can, they are very different types of events and very different environments. This is why we caution against deleting anything not explicitly asked for by your hacker guides. If you find that you have deleted something you need, or are for some reason unable to access a part of your infrastructure, please contact an event organizer, instructor or support ninja immediately as you will need their assistance in continuing.
